Autism: A New Look

When I was a little girl growing up in Serbia, there was a girl just a touch older than me who lived across the street. She had what we now know as autism, but back then, it was considered "crazy". No one would let me hang out with her because they feared I would catch what she had. That's the nature of human development... until we become educated about it, we fear it. I've had the privilege of knowing some pretty fantastic autistic people throughout my life and here are my recent observations...

The Power of One - Autism - Cell Phone Screen

  1. Physicality

    1. For example, when we look at an individual and we see that they appear malnourished, that is consciousness' visual expression of its needs. It's saying that that individual's body is hungry. Sometimes, that's the only problem. But for some, we can take that a step further inward and see that sometimes we have mental needs or emotional needs or soulular needs that aren't being met and that starvation will also be expressed through the physical body. Anything that can't be seen and is ignored will find a way to make itself seen.

      1. Look at the physical bodies of autistic people and collect data to see if any physical characteristics can be grouped. That data can be analyzed to determine what is attempting to express itself.

      2. This type of expression is not only visible on an individual scale but also on a social one. Socially, it presents in potentially concentrated varieties throughout various locations to highlight what is missing/ needed in that location and/or to point out an environmental problem.

Though the surface is a shallow space, it is often necessary to look at it. Let's not pretend we don't see skin... People's skins, society's skins, humanity's skins, earth's skin, etc. The surface is an important expression of the interior.

  2. Special Skills

Dividing autism into skill sets can segment the kinds of autism. Each kind would have its own severity spectrum.

    1. This distinction would help define what humanity is missing from itself.

      1. For example, collect the visual art inclined autistic people and look at what kind of art they're creating. That can tell you what they need as individuals, what their local society may need, and what humanity needs as a whole. Compare and contrast the principles and elements of design.

      2. Look at what kind of music they create. Analyze the sounds. There might be a specific purpose those sounds are necessary, whether it's in communication or health or some other substantial reason.

Consciousness doesn't create without purpose because consciousness has logic regardless of the perspective, be it individual, social, or humanity. I know an autistic guy, Harrison, who solved the Fukushima crisis but no one would listen to him just because he has autism. Don't dismiss "special" people because they're truly special in that they can deliver what the world needs in special circumstances. Autism will continue to rise until we look at it. Look at it! Reeeally look at it! And care about what it's saying to you... to all of us. And care about the people who have it because we should all care about each other. It's what the world needs.
